Maybe a lot of people think that "sweaty, awkward, uber-nerds that masturbate to pictures of Zelda or Asuka" are the same as people who date japanese girls, because anime comes from japan, and if you like japanese girls, you must also like anime girls. Since there is lots of hentai depicting anime girls being raped and stuff like that, the people who like anime girls (and japanese girls) must be sicko, perverted creeps. It is pretty dumb that there is such an idea as "asiaphiles", while it's perfectly acceptable to prefer black women, or mexican women, or german women.
