Master Japanese in a mere 37,960,000 days. Lesson 10: I’m breathing in all this vacuum for you!
I really like planes; more than that I like doing lots of long jumps to get to work instead of driving. That means today we’re going to learn 飛ぶ (とぶ, to fly) and 跳ぶ (とぶ, to jump) today. They sound the same but the meaning is a little different. Let’s get jumping/flying/flumping!
彼は飛行機でパリへ飛んだ
飛行機で韓国へ飛んだけど刀を振ってたから入れさせなかった。
ひこうきでかんこくへとんだけどかたなをふってたからはいれさせなかった。
I flew to Korea, but they wouldn’t let me in because I was waving around my katana.
貴様が崖から樹海に飛び込んだ。捕まえろ!
きさまががけからじゅかいにとびこんだ。つかまえろ!
The bastard jumped off the cliff into the trees. Go get him!
囲いを跳び超えそうだと思ったけど転んじゃって怪我した。
かこいをとびこえそうだとおもったけどころんじゃってけがした。
I thought I jumped over the fence, but I still fell and hurt myself.
Remember, don’t jump too high as there’s no one to speak Japanese to on Andromeda.
