All of you should know that there has been a very large earthquake in northeastern Japan. There’s no reason to go over what everyone knows so I don’t plan on doing that (but if you’ve really been that ignorant of the news just go look it all up on google). Since I’m also quite far away from both the nuclear situation (500km) as well as the original earthquake (farther than 500km) there isn’t really much for me to say personally. The ways in which I’ve been affected are few – a canceled trip to Tokyo and people asking if everything is OK.

The day of the quake I took my dog to the doctor because she was having trouble keeping food down (she’s fine now). I usually go to Japanese class on Friday mornings, but after waking up to a glob of red fluid and a (still) happy dog I thought it best to head straight to the vet and skip class. Later on in the day when I’m wasting time before class starts I suddenly feel slightly dizzy (apparently that was a common reaction in the Mie area). At the time I had no clue that this was actually an earthquake since earthquakes are associated with more jerky movements, not a lazy back and forth for 15 seconds; 20 minutes later I then realize the situation at hand. On the Japan side of things that’s it (so far).

Given my basically pointless account of events, I feel that some perspective would be a good idea. Gakuranman has an extremely detailed list of events as they happened here and here

If you feel like you want to give, please do. However, I feel that money would be better spent helping somewhere else that can’t help themselves as well as Japan can.

I’ll still be updating in the present as well, so no need to worry that I’ll miss September.

Well, I thought I would have an Internet connection when I moved into my locale of permanence, but Yahoo thinks you need to cancel the current contract and make a new one if all you want to do is change names on the bill. Don’t they know that I get special privelidges because I’m white? I should have an “ok” Internet connection (the slowest possible connection you can get is 8mb’s and most people have at least quadruple that) in a week or so. So things won’t be nearly as bad as last time.

In the meantime, keep fighting your war of attrition on all things not cute and/or freakishly strange.

So I no have el interneto again and regular updates will resume again. For now you’re just going to get an update about me. I’ve been in Kyoto (famous for being hated by Republicans) for the past month or so as I was getting sick of sharing a tiny space with three other people in Osaka. I would’ve picked somewhere else in Osaka, but pretty much everywhere either required at least three months of residence or they were too much than I wanted to pay. Anyway, I’m leaving on Kyoto on the 13th of this month, which means I’m barely missing Gion Matsuri, to go to Mie. I’m not going to tell you exactly where I’m going to be for anonymity, but I will tell you that if any of you are Grand Prix fans that you should come visit, really.

So what will I be doing there? I think you can guess, but I might as well tell you anyways. Yes, I will be teaching English, but this time it will be dressed down and kiddyfied. Sounds like a great idea, right?

I don’t know my exact address, but when I do I shall inform anyone who wants to know. What I will not be doing is posting it for everyone to see.

P.S. I know that the twitter widget doesn’t work properly. Hopefully I get something working soon.
