So I no have el interneto again and regular updates will resume again. For now you’re just going to get an update about me. I’ve been in Kyoto (famous for being hated by Republicans) for the past month or so as I was getting sick of sharing a tiny space with three other people in Osaka. I would’ve picked somewhere else in Osaka, but pretty much everywhere either required at least three months of residence or they were too much than I wanted to pay. Anyway, I’m leaving on Kyoto on the 13th of this month, which means I’m barely missing Gion Matsuri, to go to Mie. I’m not going to tell you exactly where I’m going to be for anonymity, but I will tell you that if any of you are Grand Prix fans that you should come visit, really.

So what will I be doing there? I think you can guess, but I might as well tell you anyways. Yes, I will be teaching English, but this time it will be dressed down and kiddyfied. Sounds like a great idea, right?

I don’t know my exact address, but when I do I shall inform anyone who wants to know. What I will not be doing is posting it for everyone to see.

P.S. I know that the twitter widget doesn’t work properly. Hopefully I get something working soon.

6 days ago I took a trip up to Kyoto with one of my roommates and, well, the sites we saw were surely surreal. The headline should clue you in to what I’m talking about (I hope). Let’s start from the beginning.

We’re at Kyoto (京都) last Wednesday so we can see some temples. While looking at the map, we see Iwatayama Park; the picture next to the park has a monkey. We decide that we’re definitely going to see that. We had bus passes so we took the long bus ride from Kyoto station all the way out to Iwatayama park. Since I’m making this post, you know that the park was definitely worth seeing.

Beware the monkey ninjas!

If you want to visit Japan you can’t be a walkaphobic. Almost everything worth seeing that is outside of a city has many steps leading up to it; this park was no exception. During the walk, we had no idea what we were going to see, the path we were taking was through a forest on the hill we were climbing. However, once we got to the top, we saw the glorious bounty that was laid before us.

This monkey might look sad, but he’s really playing with himself.

Monkeys everywhere, literally. The hilltop was full of monkeys of all sizes and ages. And all of them were free-roaming, as long as they stayed on the mountain. Some of the monkeys were weird,

This monkey is eating the building… I don’t really know why.

and some were really cute.

Underneath this mat is a doorway to magical monkey land!

You could even go into a little building so that you could feed the monkeys peanuts. The older ones would get really pissed when you would feed the younger, cuter ones and not them. We were even lucky enough to see feeding time.

They’re creating an army!

Visiting Monkey Park was quite easily the best part of that day. For those that are thinking of visiting: if you really like monkeys we can go to Kyoto so that you can get your monkey fix.

So the day after I visited Nara I had to go to training in Kyoto. Kyoto isn’t close to me by any standard, but I was still able to take a train from Ikoma and be in Kyoto in less than an hour. There’s nothing any of you can use to gauge if this is an efficient trip or not, but I can tell you that it is. For what it’s worth, this was an express train (which didn’t cost any more than the regular train).

Anyways… I got to the train station early so that I could do a little sightseeing and find exactly where the Nova branch was located. Not only were there two branches in close proximity, but they were not easy to find. It took me a while, but I managed to find out where the branch was; it was in a shopping mall called the Cube (which is not in the shape of a cube).

To make a long story short, training went well, but I’m still not sure why I went to Kyoto for training (they train at Gakuenmae, where I work). I did a lot of training and didn’t have much time for exploring. I will definitely have to go back to Kyoto to see the Nintendo building.

After this post, I’m going to stop posting the day for stuff I did; there’s just no way I’m going to be able to remember which day it was.
