Foreigner stabbed to death at apartment, Filipino man faces arrest

TSU, Mie — A foreign man was stabbed to death at an apartment in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, law enforcers said. They are seeking an arrest warrant for a Filipino man in custody.

According to police, at around 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, a foreign-looking man came to a police box in Suzuka city, Mie Prefecture, saying there had been a fight in the apartment next to his and a man was lying in the corridor outside.

Police went to the apartment and found a man in his 40s to 50s lying in the corridor with stab wounds to his left abdomen and chest. The wounded man, also a foreigner, was taken to the hospital but confirmed dead. No weapon was found.

Investigative sources say that prefectural police questioned a Filipino man in his 50s who lived in the apartment building and had fled but was found nearby, and are now seeking a warrant for his arrest.

According to investigators and local residents, the victim was not a resident of the apartment complex, but was an acquaintance of the man now in police custody. From around 10 a.m. on the day of the murder, several foreigners had apparently gathered in the room to drink, and at around 7:30 p.m., when a neighbor who had heard quarreling stepped out into the hallway, the victim was found lying on the ground. An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.

The apartment, about 1.5 kilometers southeast of Hiratacho station on the Kintetsu Suzuka line, is located near an auto-related factory. According to a former resident of the apartment building, some 80 percent of its residents were foreigners.

Well, while I was there I was interviewed by an online news organization for the brazilian speakers of Japan. If you know Portuguese (or just want to watch the video) then you can watch it here (I can’t embed it, sorry).

I’ll try in the future to be interviewed by other groups of people so that I can show you me, for the benefit of all.

So I’ve been told, nay, threatened that I need to talk about what I’m doing in this mixed up world. I guess you know which country I’m currently in, which is good, but what am I doing? That’s a different bag of jellyfish.

So I believe I’ve noted in the past that at one point I was living (short term) in Osaka and then Kyoto. During that time I was, at first, looking for a job and then (mostly in Kyoto) waiting for the job to start. At the end of July I left there for my current location, which I have alluded to when I arrived here, and I started working.

So what am I doing? You can probably take a good guess and be fairly close; I’m teaching English at small school in the “Three-ply” area of Japan. Most of my students are elementary school age, but there are a few older kids and adults. And as long as you have no problem working with children it’s not particularly difficult work, but you do have to be more lively than you would be at a normal desk job. On Wednesdays I also teach at a kindergarten in the local area, which is tiring, but lots of fun.

Besides that there isn’t much to say about the job, the classes are small, it’s not a monolithic corporation and I have good hours. Don’t know if there’s anything else to say about it.

So I no have el interneto again and regular updates will resume again. For now you’re just going to get an update about me. I’ve been in Kyoto (famous for being hated by Republicans) for the past month or so as I was getting sick of sharing a tiny space with three other people in Osaka. I would’ve picked somewhere else in Osaka, but pretty much everywhere either required at least three months of residence or they were too much than I wanted to pay. Anyway, I’m leaving on Kyoto on the 13th of this month, which means I’m barely missing Gion Matsuri, to go to Mie. I’m not going to tell you exactly where I’m going to be for anonymity, but I will tell you that if any of you are Grand Prix fans that you should come visit, really.

So what will I be doing there? I think you can guess, but I might as well tell you anyways. Yes, I will be teaching English, but this time it will be dressed down and kiddyfied. Sounds like a great idea, right?

I don’t know my exact address, but when I do I shall inform anyone who wants to know. What I will not be doing is posting it for everyone to see.

P.S. I know that the twitter widget doesn’t work properly. Hopefully I get something working soon.
